Local business reaches national awards finals

Clippersharp from Culmstock, Devon, has reached the national finals of the 2012 British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) Business Awards.

Clippersharp (Mail Order/Internet retailer category) will be in line to collect the BETA/SEIB Retailer of the Year Award during the BETA Gala Dinner at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham, on Sunday, 19 February.

Clippersharp was founded in 1994 and is run by Richard and Vicky Goody, with an additional two full time members of staff, Sara Llewellyn and Beccy Bryant. Clippersharp specialises in the repair and supply of all types of animal clippers and blades, but also has a large range of additional equestrian products which are available from the shop or by mail order. “Around 90% of our business is now internet based although we do have a retail premises at the farm, and have a mobile unit for show use during the summer months” comments Richard. “Our customer base has expanded dramatically over the last couple of years, which is encouraging particularly in this difficult economic climate.”

“We’re delighted to have reached the finals of such a prestigious award, particularly as we were nominated by our customers,” said Richard “In the best traditions of a specialist retailer, we always endeavour to offer a personal yet professional service and it’s satisfying to know that our efforts have been rewarded.”

As part of the final judging, Clippersharp’s trade suppliers have been asked to add their votes to those of customers. BETA is also conducting a series of mystery shops and incognito telephone calls to the short-listed candidates.

“There were more than 4,000 nominations for the BETA/SEIB Retailer of the Year Award, so many congratulations go to Clippersharp for reaching the finals,” said BETA executive director Claire Williams.
