Design a Diamond Jubilee fence at Nunney International Horse Trials
Organisers of Nunney International Horse Trials are calling all budding cross country course designers to try their hand at designing a fence for the first ever running of the event on June 15-17.
The theme for the fence will be the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee which takes place just two weeks before the event and the fence will be used on the two star track.
Adrian Ditcham, a British Eventing Gold course designer, has been commissioned to design the course. He said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to really get involved with a horse trials and see your design from its conception to being tackled by horses and riders.
“By tying it in with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee we are hopeful of some really wonderful ideas; crowns, carriages, palaces, foot soldiers, thrones, anything goes. We want people to really use their imaginations and if it’s original and different we’ll build it. If its a really good idea we may be able to include it in a combination.”
Adrian is part of the team responsible for building the course at Greenwich Park for this year’s London Olympics, as well as designing or building at numerous British Eventing one day events, a selection of international events and one of the world’s leading four star courses at Burghley Horse Trials where he has built since 1992.
The horse trials organiser John Colson said: “It’s the first ever running of Nunney International Horse Trials having replaced Longleat and we thought it was a great way to both celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee while encouraging people to get involved with the event.”
The competition closes on April 30 and all entries should be posted to Lt Col and Mrs John Colson, Ridgeway Farm, Awliscombe, Honiton, Devon EX14 3PY or emailed to jcolson@nunneyhorsetrails.co.uk. All the designs received for the event will be displayed in a special montage in the results tent during the course of the competition. Each entry must clearly state name and contact details as well as age if under 18.
The prize for winning the design a Diamond Jubilee-themed fence at Nunney International Horse Trials is a VIP day at the event, including a course walk, lunch for two and the chance to fence judge at your fence for an hour or so.
