Foal Dumped at the side of Surrey Road
he RSPCA is appealing for information after a lame foal was dumped at the side of the road in Surrey.
The Society was alerted after a member of the public spotted the chestnut-colouredĀ foal, on land at the side of Tilburstow Hill Road, Godstone just after 5.40pm on Monday 4 June 2012 ( bank holiday) An RSPCA officer and a vet attend the scene, and the foal, which was only a few weeks old was sedated and loaded onto a horse lorry, so it could be comfortably transported to a local vets.
Sadly, however, an examination of the young equine revealed the extent to which the infection in his leg has spread into his stifle and hock joints and he was put to sleep on veterinary advice to prevent further suffering.
RSPCA inspector Rob Jackson, who is investigating, said: "This poor animal had an infection which if caught early could well have been treated but instead of getting himĀ help, whoever was responsible simply dumped him.
"As the animal was probably bought to this area specifically to be dumped this may be a fairly local animal but equally it could have come from some distance away. However, if anybody recognises the foal or has any information about how it came to be found or where it came from I would urge them to contact the RSPCA.
"If someone thinks it is acceptable to simply leave a creature in this way it begs the question how their other animals are cared for and we have to wonder if they have other animals in need or our help."
Anyone with specific information about this incident is urged to contact the RSPCA cruelty and information line on 0300 1234 999 and leave a message for Inspector Jackson. Calls are in confidence.
Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 anyone found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to animal can face up to six months in prison.
